The decision tree changed how I scope new bots. We stopped over-using UI automation almost overnight.
API & RPA Hybrid Design
When to call an API, when to drive a UI, and how to argue for the right mix.
Most production RPA work is half UI automation and half API calls. This course teaches you to design hybrid bots intentionally. You will work through three cases — a SaaS migration, a partner sync, and a queue triage — and defend, in writing, why each step is API-first or UI-first.
What is in this course
- A decision tree for API-first vs UI-first per process step
- Live calls to a sample REST API plus rate-limit handling
- Three cases with paired peer review at the end of week 3
- Mentor review of your written design defense in week 5
- Reference architecture diagrams for hybrid workflows
Outcomes you should expect
- Choose API or UI per step with a defendable rationale
- Build a hybrid bot that survives intermittent API outages
- Document a hybrid design in language other engineers can review

Common questions
Mostly yes. We do a one-hour primer in week 1, but learners with no API experience usually find weeks 3 and 4 challenging. The Bot Developer Track is a more comfortable entry point.
Yes. We host a small REST sandbox specifically for the course. No external accounts required.
A small one — basic JSON shaping and HTTP request authoring inside the workflow tool. No standalone language work.
Voices from past cohorts
Tough but fair. The peer review in week 3 was the most useful critique I have had in years.
I would have liked one more case study, but five weeks is honestly enough.
